Wetaskiwin 4-H Show & Sale

VJV is now offering a new timed auction platform to help our 4-H kids in the community. Giving them the ability to market their beef projects to potential buyers using the auction method for true price discovery.

HOW IT WORKS

Pictures and a short video will be available to view a week prior to the sale date to allow buyers the ability to view and read the members biography. The timed auction will begin closing at a set time (determined by club prior) and will close at different intervals thereafter. If a buyer is to bid on a certain lot as it is close to closing, the clock will reset and add time to allow other buyers time to bid again, once the first lot has closed the next lot will then start to begin closing.

WHAT TO DO WITH CATTLE

Clubs will haul their market steers to one of our 5 VJV markets the morning of the sale (dropping off at allotted times to avoid contact with other members) the VJV staff will weigh and pen the cattle, once the yard is clear, a judge could walk the alley and select a Grand & Reserve Champion for conformation if desired by your club.

AFTER THE SALE

If there is a floor price set, we then can group everything up and load it out as desired, for cattle needing to return to individual’s homes, our staff will load them out after the sale. If no floor price or a buyer wants to consign their purchased animal to our regular weekly sale VJV will do so at no commission.

COST TO 4-H CLUBS

After talking to many clubs, we have determined that most charge the members anywhere from 2% - 3% commission to cover the expenses of: renting the facility, buyer’s supper, catalog production, processing of funds etc.

VJV will handle the money and offer insurance for the cattle while they are at our market, we will charge 3% and make a spread sheet of basic expenses, if it costs us 1.5% or 2% per say, the balance of the 3% will be donated back to your club (could be used for new clippers etc, seniors trip or returned to each kid) whatever your club decides. VJV has zero interest in profiting from this service. We are offering this to 4-H clubs out of good will, to assist theses kids in climbing out of the debt they have incurred by purchasing high quality beef genetics and top-quality feed to promote this wonderful industry we rely on.
